Arickaree- Parent CMAS Opt-out Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In April of this school year, we will begin administering the State Mandated Standardized Tests known as the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), which assess students’ knowledge of state academic standards.  The subject and grade levels to be tested this year are 3rd – 8th grade English language arts, math, and science for grades 5th, 8th, and 11th.

State law allows parents to determine what is in the best interest of their child and decide if their student(s) should or should not take the state-mandated standardized tests.  The Arickaree School District will not be held liable should you opt out of your student taking these tests.  In addition, we want to be clear that there will be no consequences should you opt out any of your students from taking the upcoming state-mandated standardized tests.

In compliance with state and federal law, the Arickaree School District will administer all required state-mandated standardized tests starting April 11th.  We are planning and preparing for students to take the upcoming mandated state tests.  However, if you are planning to opt your student out from taking the upcoming state-mandated standardized tests, please print or request a printed copy of this form and return it to the school office, as we have been directed to maintain documentation of parent refusal.

Should you have any questions regarding mandated standardized testing, please get in touch with Mr. Feather, or me at your earliest convenience.  970-383-2202.

Please return the letter to school NO later than Wednesday, April 5th
